When you talk to a business manager, a doctor, physicist,
or an engineer, you take their words in granted. You don't
have the assumption you have better or the same understanding
about their specialty. That's exactly the downfall of psychology.
After all, "It's just common sense." And I don't get it when
people don't realize there should be a difference between
someone who's studying the thing full time and someone else.
It sucks!

That very blurred line of authority in the legitimacy of claims over one’s access to the truth is one of the beauties of a great majority of social sciences. Think about those who study management, politics, sociology, psychology etc. Every individual could legitimately challenge the analysis, understanding or practice of an expert.
I would argue that in these disciplines, the mastery and authority manifests itself way after the initial positioning of the interested parties, and in the process of their engagement and reasoning. That’s where a learned psychiatrist could gradually establish his/her authority over a person has not had the opportunity to study and reflect over the subject matter to the same degree.
Hamaad jan, I really didn't get what you said, but I'm sure it was sth good. and what does psychiatry does have anything to do with these?
Now that I read my note, I realise that I have left out a number of words and mis-spelt some others. I am slightly busier than usual these days, but will call you soon. If you were still interested, we could share our viewpoints on the subject over the phone. ;)
