Dear
My name is [name] and I’m one of your constituents living in [neighborhood/street].
I am writing to request a meeting to discuss the Canadian government’s position on the recent, unprovoked Israeli attacks on Iran.
As someone who lived through the devastating 8-year war between Iran and Iraq- backed and funded by Western powers- I carry firsthand experience of the trauma of war. I stand firmly against all military occupations, violence, and aggression, no matter where they occur. No child should have to endure what I went through, and no community should live under the threat of bombings.
I was deeply disappointed by Mark Carney’s recent comments suggesting Iran has shown “self-restraint” in the face of these attacks. When one state bombs another’s territory indiscriminately, it is not a matter of restraint: it is a matter of justice and international law. The lack of condemnation by this government toward the ongoing atrocities in Palestine has already been deeply troubling. Mr. Carney’s recent remarks are not only misleading, but they also amount to victim-blaming.
As my elected representative, I urge you to speak out on my behalf:
- To condemn the Israeli attacks on Iran;
- To call for a full boycott of Israel in response to its violations of international law;
- And to support an international arms embargo against the Israeli government.
Additionally, I ask that Canada reinstate the direct telephone access that allowed many of us to contact our families in Iran during the Woman, Life, Freedom movement. This is a non-partisan and humanitarian request that would mean a great deal to those of us with loved ones back home.
Terry, you were elected to represent all of us in this riding. I’m asking you to uphold that promise. Canada’s response to the war in Ukraine showed what dignity and solidarity can look like. I’m not asking for special treatment—just equal treatment for racialized and immigrant communities impacted by war.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to meeting with you soon.
